User Guide

for the

Mamma Bear Prototype App

What is Mamma Bear?

Mamma Bear is an AI companion that will speak to doctors for patients when they can’t speak for themselves, or even if they just don’t know what to say. It goes far beyond a traditional medical ID bracelet or medication list—Mamma Bear remembers a patient’s entire medical history, understands the history in their care, medications past and present, and helps prevent avoidable mistakes whether during emergencies or routine visits. Her goal is simple:

Give every patient the informed, protective advocate they had in their mom, and wish they still had in the exam room.

This prototype demonstrates the look and feel of the full product.

Using the Prototype

The prototype shows the app’s layout, navigation, and core interactions. It does not include the full AI engine or full record-upload system, but it accurately represents:

  • The user journey

  • The voice/text assistant interface

  • The medical professional's emergency‑access system

Login Page

Login is intended to be done by the user, or a designated caregiver acting on their behalf. For the prototype you may login with one of three simulated user profiles:

Ana Flaxis (a typical adult patient)

Email: anaflaxis@gmail.com

Password:  Password#1

Gerry Atrichs (a senior patient)

Email: gerryatrichs@gmail.com

Password:  Password#1

Petey Atrichs (an autistic child patient)

Email: peteyatrichs@gmail.com

Password:  Password#1

The Help button at the top right of the screen is only very basically functional in the prototype but will be much more comprehensive on all pages of the final product.

The Provider Access button allows a medical provider to access your records in an emergency. This is detailed below (see EMS/Provider Access in the next section).

Home Page.jpg

Home Page

Right at the top of the Home Page are the heart and soul of Mamma Bear: the Text Assistant and the Voice Assistant. Just tap the button you want and start speaking or texting. Mamma Bear will listen and respond. These represent the conversational interface that will eventually allow Mamma Bear to:

• Answer questions

• Retrieve and voice relevant medical history

• Alert to risks

The prototype only carries a short list of scripted questions for each profile to demonstrate the function of the app. These questions are:

For Ana Flaxis:

Hi, What’s your name?

Do you have an emergency contact?

Are you allergic to anything?

Are you on any medications?

Can you tell me your medical issues?

I’m going to give you some Benadryl and epinephrine, okay?

Have you had any recent labs done?

Have you ever had a problem like this before?

How did the Medrol dosepak work for you?

For Gerry Atrichs:

Hello, sir, can you tell me your name?

Where do you live?

Can you tell me what medications you’re on?

What are your medical conditions?

Who is your primary care provider/doctor/primary physician?

When was your last visit with your doctor?

Have you ever had an echo of your heart done?

Do you have any records anywhere else than with Dr. McCoy?

I need to get an MRI…

I want to add valsartan to his regimen…

Okay, reaction to lisinopril noted. I still want to try valsartan.

Have you had any labs done recently?

For Petey Atrichs:

Has Petey ever been formally tested for autism?

Is he involved in any kinds of therapy?

Does he attend school?

Does he have an IEP?

Has Petey ever had any genetic testing done?

Has he ever had an EEG/electroencephalogram?

Has Petey ever had a sleep study/PSG/polysomnogram?

The other buttons on the Home Page are:

Emergency Quick Info: this acts like an ordinary medical ID bracelet, and takes you to the Emergency Quick Info Page (see below).

The Binder: where you will find all your medical history records in their original form: scanned doctor’s notes, after-visit summaries, radiology and lab reports, and so forth.

Add Note: a free text function that allows one to document new events as they happen. These notes are accessed in list form by the Notes button on the Health Summary Page (see below).

Recent Documents: provides convenient access to the newest additions to the user’s record.

And finally the Footer buttons: Home, Profile, and Settings, which are self-explanatory.

Emergency Quick Info Page

This is your basic ‘medical ID bracelet’ in digital form, which presents a list of allergies, blood type, and emergency contacts.

At the bottom of the Emergency Quick Info Page is the View Health Summary button which takes you to the Health Summary Page.

Health Summary Page

This page is specifically designed for medical providers (see EMS/Provider Access in the next section) and so repeats the information on the Emergency Quick Info Page for convenience, but adds two other buttons:

Documents: gives access to all stored documents of any type.

Notes: is an ongoing list of significant events recorded by the user between provider encounters (new notes are entered using the Add Notes button on the Home Page)

EMS/Provider Access

In an emergency a doctor or first responder may need authorized access to a user’s records on their behalf, when they are unable to do so themselves. To do this, tap the Provider Access button on the user’s Login Page. This takes you to the Provider Access Page.

Provider Access Page

This has two buttons in the center of the screen:

EMS Personnel: The default setting.

Certified Provider: For physicians, NPs and PAs (see below)

EMS/First Responders can access the user’s records on the user’s device in two ways:

The Token ID: Every Mamma Bear user is assigned a unique Token ID, which would be found on a sticker on the user’s phone, a card in their wallet, and so forth. If the Token ID is available, enter it in the text box and tap the Access Dashboard button. This takes you to the user’s Emergency Quick Info Page.

If no Token ID is available, tap the Access Dashboard  button anyway and you will be taken to the MB-EMS Emergency Access Page.

MB-EMS Emergency Access Page

This page has three options:

Auto-Scan: searches for Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) signals emitted by smartphones, even when they’re off. This is useful for a device that may be lost somewhere at the scene of an accident, or in an ER where the device is at hand but the token ID is not available. Range is up to 10 meters. Tapping the Start Scanning  button at the bottom of the page will allow the app to search for nearby devices and, once found, to automatically connect you to the user’s Emergency Quick Info Page.

Token ID: Another point at which you may enter the Token ID manually if you have it, which will take you to the user’s Emergency Quick Info Page.

EQUIP Text Box.jpg

Descriptor:

If no Token ID is found and a device cannot be located by scanning, entering as many  physical descriptors as possible will allow Mamma Bear to narrow down possible patient identities to give you a list of potential factors to be aware of.

For example, you may get a message that ‘someone in this group has a penicillin allergy’. The more descriptors you can enter, the smaller the group, and the more focused the result.

Certified Providers may gain access in one of two ways:

If you have access to the user’s functioning device and need full access to their app:

On the user’s Login Page, tap Provider Access. Enter their Token ID and your NPI number (use 1122334455 for the prototype), and tap Request Access Code. A six-digit one-time password (OTP) will be automatically sent to your own device’s Mamma Bear app.  Entering this code into the user’s device will allow full access to the app as if you were the user.

When you are done, sign out of the app as normal.

If you have the user’s Token ID, but their device is lost or damaged, sign into your Mamma Bear app on your device with your institutional credentials. For the prototype, these are:

Email: info@mammabear.tech

Password:  Password#1

This will take you to the MB-Doctors Emergency Access Page.

MB-Doctors Emergency Access Page

Similar to the MB-EMS Emergency Access Page, but with a few differences:

Auto-Scan: searches for BLE signals up to 10 meters away. Tap Start Scanning  to search for nearby devices. Finding a device in range is announced with the message ‘Token Found!’ and the Token ID number. A six-digit one-time password (OTP) is then automatically sent to the provider’s institutional email. Entering the OTP at the bottom of the page takes you to the MB-Doctors User's Page.

Token ID: If available, enter the Token ID manually. This will also send an OTP to your email which, when entered, will take you to the MB-Doctors User's Page.

Descriptor: Works the same as on the MB-EMS Emergency Access Page.

MB-Doctors User’s Page

In the center of the page there are two tabs:

Patient Records: the default setting, which has three buttons:

  • Summary: The default, which shows the same data as the user’s Health Summary Page

  • Notes: the same as the Notes button on the user’s Health Summary Page

  • Documents: the same as the Documents button on the user’s Health Summary Page

Ask Mamma Bear: This tab takes you to the user’s Voice and Text Assistants. Text is the default setting, but the voice assistant is easily accessed by tapping the mic icon at the bottom of the screen.

When you are done, close out of the record using the arrowed button at the top of the screen.
